Breeding mares: how it works

Breeding mares helps stable owners and staff organise the entire breeding process for the mares you keep – your own or customers’ mares. It links breeding plans, mare cycle checks, semen orders and breeding activities so all data stays connected.

What a breeding plan is

A breeding plan covers one mare for a full breeding season (a year). It records the chosen stallion, semen type, all inseminations, the mare’s cycle checks, any embryos produced and the barrenness certificate if needed. The plan is the central hub that ties together orders, checks and activities for that mare.

How it works together

  1. Open the Breeding plans page, select the years you work with and use the filters or search box to see existing plans.
  2. Tap Add breeding plan, fill in mare, year, usage type, stallion and other required fields, then press Save. The new plan appears in the list.
  3. Click a row (or the arrow on mobile) to open its Breeding plan details page. You see the core data and tiles for Related orders, Related mare cycle checks, Embryos (if the usage type is ET or ICSI) and recent breeding activities.
  4. In the Related orders tile press Add to create a semen order. Enter the agent, usage type, stallion, shipping date and other details, then Save. The order is linked to the plan.
  5. In the Related mare cycle checks tile press Add to record a new New mare cycle check. Set the date, pregnancy status, uterus details, eggs, etc., and Save. The check appears here and also in the Mare cycle checks list.
  6. Open the Mare cycle checks page to view, filter or print all checks. Use the Mare and Owner filters, the New mare cycle check button or the Print button.
  7. Click a check row to open its Mare cycle check page. From there you can Edit or Remove the check; changes are reflected instantly in the linked breeding plan.
  8. Click the mare or stallion name in the General section of any detail page to jump to that horse’s own record.

Good to know

  • Buttons such as Add breeding plan, Add on tiles and Edit/Remove on checks are only visible when you have the required permissions.
  • The Embryos tile is shown only for ET or ICSI plans; otherwise it stays hidden.
  • The selected years are stored in the URL, so returning to the list restores your previous selection.
  • The breeding plan also appears on the mare’s own page, keeping the information in sync across the app.
